Living with hobbits

Almost always, about a half hour after they eat, I have this conversation with my kids.
"Mom I am hungry I want a snack."
"You can wait until snack time."
"Mom I am hungry now"
"You can wait a half hour"
Then about 10 mins to snack or lunch time.
"Mom I need food"
"Ok ok just a minute"
"Mom Mom I need food"
"Ok I will get you (insert appropriate snack or food for time of day here)"
While I am in the kitchen getting them the food I hear "Mom I want food, mom I want some food, mom I am hungry."
"Ok I am getting it"
"Mom I want food, I want food now"
"I am getting it it takes a minute."
"Mom I want food, Mom I want food, Mom I want food."

I don't understand how they can ALWAYS be hungry and why when they can see me in the kitchen getting them food they still feel the need to remind me that I need to get them food.
I could probably save myself this conversation by just letting them get their own snacks (we have a you are not allowed to just go into the kitchen and get yourself food rule), but then they would probably eat fruit snacks and granola bars all the time.

"Jesus should have named me Tarzan-Mowgli"

Tonight at dinner, Emma set down her hamburger and said "Jesus should have named me Tarzan-Mowgli, because I have really long hair." She and Alan had just finished watching Tarzan while Scott made dinner, and apparently she thinks that her hair is a lot like Tarzan's hair. And Mowgli's. She'd probably like it if we just let her hair go wild like Tarzan's too, she hates having it brushed. There are times when she does look a little like Tarzan-Mowgli, but we haven't caught a lot of them in pictures. Here's one that looks kind of ferral.

Boy oh Boy

We are having a BOY!!!!
I went to the doctor today and got the wonderful news that we will be having a baby boy by the end of the year. I am 16.5 weeks along now, so they won't give me a 100% that he is a he until my 20 week ultrasound, but the doctor said that the third thing sticking up between his legs is a pretty good indicator that he is a boy. I was also given the official due date of January 4th, but the doctor said that as long as everything looks good he sees no reason why I shouldn't be able to be induced a week early. YAY! Maybe that means he will be less than 9 lbs. That would be nice.

Can he really be a big boy???

I have dragged my feet about this, but my little baby is now sleeping in a big boy bed. Emma and Alan were both in big kid beds by 18 months, but with Logan I have really wanted to keep him in his baby bed, and he LOVES the sanctuary of his crib. Despite that and all I have to do I realized I needed to train him how too sleep in a regular bed since he will not have a crib while we are in Alaska. So today I converted his crib into a toddler bed. He did so well. When I tucked him in I explained to him that he needs to stay in his bed at night like a big boy. So far so good! He is asleep and in his bed and did not get out that I saw.

Moving Along So Quickly

The nice people building our home are nice enough to send us pictures once a week, which is great since we won't be heading up that way this weekend and I get a little anxious about seeing it. When I first saw the pictures the first one I saw was of the stairs with the railing and I said to Scott "That's not our house." Mainly because I wasn't expecting railings and they looked so pretty. Anyway here are a few of the pictures we got today.

Yay for there finally being some of the hardy board on the front of the house.

In case you couldn't tell these are pictures of our railings and the kitchen, dining, and family room.

Time really seems to be speeding up now. Scott takes the bar in 10 days and we leave for Alaska in 12 day. I have 12 days to basically get us packed up and ready to move so that when we get home we will be ready to close on our hopefully finished house and move before Emma starts kindergarten. Not to mention that are trip to good ol AK is due to my sister's wedding so over the next 12 days I will be altering Emma's flower girl dress, making sure the boys suits still fit, making a flower girl basket and praying that my dress will still fit. Not to mention it is a 6 hour plane ride and they no longer just serve meals and snacks on the plane so I will be planning for that. All and all I feel really good about things I just wish I felt less pregnant so I could get more done in a day. But I realized a long time ago that getting stressed about things doesn't help so for now I am of that attitude of "hey no problem I can do that."

My sweet girl

Yesterday I was laying on the sofa next to Emma during "rest time" and while softly rubbing my leg she said to me, "I am sorry you are sick Mom. But I really love the little baby girl in your tummy and it is just something you are going to have to go through if you want to have a baby."
For the record we don't know if we are having a girl, but Emma seems to think we are. I was a little surprised how much she understood and I am glad to know she understands why sometimes mommy just needs to lay down. And mostly I am glad she loves the baby. I just hope she will still love the baby as much if it turns out to be a boy. She went on to tell me how I need to get lots of rest and take my medicine so the baby can be healthy. It was cute. I am sure she will be a really great mommy someday.

Emma is also gaining such a great understanding of the gospel. Today she was asked if she has any brothers or sisters and she said 4. I corrected her and said no you only have two brothers. Then Emma said "Mom Jesus is my brother, he is every ones brother." I stand corrected. She was also counting the new baby. I guess this time around I don't like counting chickens before they hatch if you know what I mean.

FHE

The kids, especially Alan, have really been wanting to go camping in the mountains, but with Scott taking the bar exam soon, and me being sick ALL THE TIME, there really just hasn't been a good opportunity. So, to make it up to them, we went up Provo Canyon tonight and roasted hot dogs. A good time was had by all. While Scott built the fire, the kids and I hunted for firewood and threw rocks in the river.

Then we came back up to start cooking. Logan stayed in that stroller for about 2 seconds. He had a blast running around hitting things with sticks, throwing rocks, trying to pick up bugs, and licking trees.

Alan ate 3 hot dogs and was very proud of himself for using the potty in the woods like a big boy...only don't tell him that he's a big boy, because he's a little Alan boy.

Then we had to throw a few more rocks in the river before heading home.

4th of July

We had a very fun 4th of July weekend. We started out by taking the kids to Liberty Park in Salt Lake to play in the fountains. When we lived in Salt Lake, we used to go there with Emma all the time, but I don't think we have been there in over a year, so it was great fun to be able to go back there with Alan and Logan. First we had fun in the canyon fountains and then we headed over to the playground to have a little fun in the water fountain there. We topped it off with a little music in the park. I had forgotten how much there is to do there. I kinda wish we planned more time there, but we had to get up to Fruit Heights to have dinner with Scott's family. But first, on the way up there, we just had to stop by and check on the house. I was so nervous about seeing the color we had chosen for the outside of the house, but when we drove up, Scott and I were both relieved to find that we both LOVE it. I can't wait to see the outside all done. Also, they had mudded the inside. Yay! That night, after dinner and putting the kids to bed, we played Monopoly, and to no one's surprise, Scott won.

Saturday morning after pancakes, we went down to our now regular spot for the Kaysville parade. We were lucky enough to be joined by Scott's Mom and Dad, his brother Jake, and his friends Cory and Andrea Nelson with their cutie cute little girls. There was perfect parade weather and the kids had a blast. They got a ton of candy, necklaces, and Emma got a princess book, Alan got a ball and frisbee, and Logan got Bolt on DVD. Whoever heard of them giving out DVDs from parade floats? By the time the parade was over Logan was completely worn out. We sent the rest of the day with family at Mom and Dad's playing in sprinklers in the back yard, watching Kevin play Zelda on the Wii, and eating pizza and homemade peach ice cream. We ended the day with a few fireworks. All in all, it was a pretty great day.I guess some things never change. The first picture is Alan waiting for the parade to start this year and the second picture is Alan waiting for the parade to start last year.

Logan waiting for the parade to start.

Logan with Natalie (Cory and Andrea's little girl). She is about 8 months older than Logan. Aren't they cute together? They have the same hair do. :)

Scott's little brother Kevin is in the Davis High Drumline.

Emma and Logan loved all the floats with dance teams and cheerleaders. They would dance and cheer as they passed. Scott is such a good dad to dance on the side of the road with the kids.

Pool Party

Last week we had our first little at-home pool party of the year. Usually we enjoy the kiddie pool a lot earlier in the summer, but between feeling morning, noon, and night sickness, and all the rain we've had this year, this was the first day that I got it all out. We played for hours and the kids had a ton of fun.Alan likes sharks... can you tell?
